March's speaker will be Arlene Hamilton. Arlene is a member of the Greater Fort Worth Herb Society, the Herb Society of America and past president of the North Texas Unit of HSA. She is a life-long gardener and started growing herbs in the early 1970s when she was introduced to the joy of using fresh herbs by the Webster Groves Herb Society (St. Louis, Missouri). Upon moving to Waxahachie, Texas in 2000 Arlene had to rethink the dynamics of growing plants in the Texas heat and alkaline clay. She studied and has become a Texas Master Gardener and a certified Rainwater Harvesting Specialist for Texas. She participates in the Waxahachie Farmer's Market selling herb plants and products made with herbs.
The subject of Arlene's talk will be - Growing and Using Culinary Herbs in North Texas. In this presentation she will discuss using herbs in your landscape design, growing, harvesting, preserving and bringing interesting flavors to the kitchen. Herb samples and time will be available for lots of hands-on tasting and smelling a variety of herbs that thrive in the North Texas climate. Hope to see you there!
