Our speaker at the September 26th, 2010 meeting will be John Briscoe. John is the founder of Horticall Interior Specialists. His presentation will provide information on selecting and caring for house plants the organic way.
John received a BS in Ornamental Horticulture from Ohio State University in 1982. He is a Texas Certified Nurseryman and a Certified Interior Landscape Technician. Additionally, John teaches Horticulture at Richland College. This should be a very informative meeting. Hope to see you there! |

John Snowden will be our speaker this month. John earned his BS degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. He researched the state of native plant landscaping in Texas and surrounding states while earning his MS in Horticulture also at Texas A&M University. He founded Bluestem Nursery to serve the demand for native Texas Grasses in native plant landscapes.
John's presentation will emphasize the drought-tolerant aspects of Texas native grasses, while showing their ornamental characters and showcasing the various habitats, ranging from shade to full sun. This gives the organic gardener a very diverse range of sizes, shapes, colors and places to put these well-adapted landscaping plants. Hope to see you there! |

Our program this week will be viewing the Path to Freedom video about the Dervaes family and their suburban farm. They live a truly GREEN life. Including solar energy, biodiesel, ducks, chickens, goats and fish along with farming their 1/10th of an acre where they bring in about 5000lbs of produce a year. The video is about 20 minutes and we will hold a discussion afterwards. Hope to see you there! |

Bonnie Bradshaw will be our speaker for the Sunday, June 27th, 2010 meeting. Bonnie will talk about Critters in the Garden. Discover effective, humane solutions to common wildlife problems including armadillos digging holes in your lawn, cottontails devouring flowers, and squirrels uprooting plants. Plus, learn that many facts are stranger than fiction when it comes to opossums, coyotes, bobcats, raccoons and others species of urban wildlife.
Bonnie is a Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator, licensed wildlife control operator and one of the founders of the DFW Wildlife Coalition.

On Saturday morning, June 19, 2010 John Caldwell (a DOGC member) will host a tour of his vegetable gardens, fruit trees, small cotton field, and solar electric panels. In 2008, John's harvest was 560 pounds of Roma tomatoes, red bell peppers, cucumbers, eggplants, figs, pecans, and persimmons.

The plants are grown in black Texas Clay, enriched with composted coffee grounds from Starbucks, Children will be able to harvest and keep Roma tomatoes and sweet bell peppers. Adults can fill their own STURDY bags with up to 25 pounds of composted coffee grounds.
